AN explanation
‘ORGAMIC’
Looking around our website and social medias, you’ll probably notice the word ‘orgamic’ thrown around a lot. Don’t worry, it’s not a big spelling mistake we’ve missed! ‘Orgamic’ is a new term we’ve coined for ourselves…
As we’re sure you all know by now, we here at SCOFF are proud to produce food that’s free from pesticides, hormones, artificial fertilisers and all the other nasty stuff that can often be found in produce (if we were to use things of this nature, it could seriously harm our fish). You might think that this makes our produce ORGANIC and usually, you’d be right to think that. However, we find ourselves in a fairly unique situation that prevents us from obtaining organic certification.
Because of EU regulation number 834/200754 we are not able to say our produce is organically grown as we cannot obtain a Soil Certificate from the UK government. This is because, being an aquaponic farm, our produce grows in water, not soil. Essentially, we can’t obtain a Soil Certificate because we don’t have any soil! A bit of a nonsensical position that has led to us using the nonsensical word ‘ORGAMIC’! Rest assured, as we’ve said, all our produce is still proudly free from harmful, artificial chemicals and tastes all the better for it!
